The Performing Arts Center will be a component in the development of a Cultural Campus in Rapid City. The proposed area of development is ideal for future expansion to meet the anticipated growth of performing arts, education and cultural programs for Rapid City’s future generations. A Cultural Campus will establish Rapid City as an innovative, cultural leader by creating an environment that brings culture, art, business and education to one easily accessed campus for residents and visitors in downtown Rapid City.

The Performing Arts Center would provide diverse opportunities for regional artists, performers and Arts organizations while serving the community, businesses and visitors. It will house a 500-seat theatre that will greatly enhance the aesthetic and acoustic quality of theatre, music and dance performances. Additional features will include a lobby, gallery exhibition and sales space, Box Office, multi-functional classrooms and studios, adequate on-site rehearsal and storage space, production facilities and administrative offices. Locating the Center near the Journey Museum and the Civic Center also provides adequate and accessible parking for a mid-size theatre, which is needed to accommodate groups, conventions and tour buses as well as individuals.
